Having mentioned in yesterday’s post that I’ll be on sabbatical for the next academic year, this would probably be a good time to point out that this means I’m somewhat more flexible than usual in terms of going places and giving talks. And I enjoy going places and giving talks. About lots of different things.
So, if you’re at a place that might be interested in a science-y speaker on quantum physics, relativity, science communication, science in general, or something related to those, drop me a line. I’d be happy to talk about the possibility of visiting new places and talking to people about science.
Let me put in a (totally unsolicited) plug. Chad gave a colloquium last year here at Vanderbilt on science communication, and it was really outstanding.
You should add a list of “Upcoming Appearances” to your website so folks know where you’re going to be – that way, it will be easier for a school or organization to see where your *tour* fits in with their meeting plans. (BTW: Found you via Scalzi’s twitter feed – those Spiderman lyrics were brilliant!)
Not on topic, but I figured it was a better place than most to suggest a blog topic for Forbes (or here, if you choose): How to deal with trolls or troll behavior, such as The Donald.
You must have seen your share in Usenet days and learned a few lessons that those on the campaign trail and in the media might learn from.
What is a sabatical? Who takes them and why? What will you be doing during the year?
