This went around a different corner of my social-media universe while I was off in Waterloo, away from my iTunes. I was curious about it, though, so looked at the contents of the “25 Most Played” playlist, and having done that, I might as well post them here (the number in parentheses is the number of times it’s been played according to iTunes):
- Beautiful Wreck,” Shawn Mullins, (280)
- “In The Mood,” Glenn Miller And His Orchestra, (279)
- “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” Darlene Love, (278)
- “Almost Saturday Night,” John Fogerty, (277)
- “Shake It Up,” The Cars, (275)
- “Sunblock,” Emmet Swimming, (275)
- “Life, In A Nutshell,” Barenaked Ladies, (273)
- “Manhattan,” Visqueen, (273)
- “Tell Balgeary, Balgury Is Dead,” Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, (272)
- “Sing, Sing, Sing,” Benny Goodman & His Orchestra, (270)
- “Big Brown Eyes,” Old 97’s, (266)
- “The Whole Of The Moon,” The Waterboys, (266)
- “Lost In The Supermarket,” The Afghan Whigs, (264)
- “Hey Hey What Can I Do,” Led Zeppelin, (264)
- “The World Without Logos,” Hellsing, (259)
- “All The Lilacs In Ohio,” John Hiatt, (256)
- “Dance The Night Away,” The Mavericks, (255)
- “Shoe Box,” Barenaked Ladies, (254)
- “Rockaway Beach,” The Ramones, (254)
- “Somebody To Shove,” Soul Asylum, (253)
- “Catch My Disease,” Ben Lee, (252)
- “Bye, Bye,” The Subdudes, (251)
- “Open All Night,” Bruce Springsteen, (250)
- “Singing In My Sleep,” Semisonic, (250)
- “Sister Havana,” Urge Overkill, (250)
That’s a pretty decent list of tracks, right there. These are all on the “FutureBaby” playlist, I believe, which I somewhat regularly use as a source for kid-friendly shuffle play. Which is why there’s no Hold Steady on this, and only one cover song by the Afghan Whigs.
So, there you have it: the music I’ve heard the most (while sitting at this particular computer) over the last several years. Make of that what you will.
One of these things is not like the other π
1. The Package, A Perfect Circle (52)
2. Hardest of Hearts, Florence + Machine (47)
3. Pet, A Perfect Circle (47)
4. Our Demons, The Glitch Mob + Aja Volkmann, (46)
5. I don’t have anything, VAST (42)
6. Animus Vox, Glitch Mob (39)
7. Follow the Cops Back Home, Placebo (36)
8. Never Seem to End, Covenant (34)
9. Cracked Earth, iVardensphere (30)
10. Commerce City Sister, Devotchk (26)
I did just lose my hard drive last winter and had to start from scratch. That’s my excuse π
I’m not constantly playing music on my computer, so my play totals are not that impressive. Number 1 is “She’s Leaving Home” by the Beatles, with 47 plays. The 25th ranked song has 37 plays. Artists appearing more than once on the list: Simon and Garfunkel (five songs, including three of the top ten), ABBA, and Dire Straits (two songs each).
I am a big John Hiatt fan. The album that contains βAll The Lilacs In Ohio” has a few really good songs.
