SteelyKid has recently discovered the game hide-and-seek. Shhh! She’s hiding right now. Can you guess where she is?
You can’t tell from the picture, of course, but just in case it wasn’t obvious where she’s hiding, she usually calls out when you get kind of close. Or even jumps out of her hiding place yelling “Ta-da!”
She’s got a ways to go before she’s ready for the Olympics. the important thing is to have fun, though:
This is from an extended period of “hiding” with Kate under the green blanket, then pulling the blanket down and laughing uproariously. It was the funniest thing in the history of funny things, as far as she was concerned…
(I’m out of town at the moment, hence the scheduled-in-advance midafternoon Toddler Blogging.)
Or tells you before she goes and hides, where she’s going to hide. Or comes out of hiding before you’re finished counting to give you a hug. Or just happy-screeches as you start looking.
Hey, it makes her happy. And I often get told to keep hiding under the green blanket, which is very restful.
A fun, happy and joyous kid; good job.
My daughter’s favorite variation on this was to tell me, as my countdown began, *not* to look under the dining room table (aka her hiding place), followed by me loudly looking in every other possible and not-so-possible hiding place on that level of the house.
Fun for the whole family…
Wait until she’s about 5, and starts to try to tell jokes! There’s a similar ‘unclear on the concept’ effect that happens then as well.
Trent, SteelyKid will have advanced in her understanding of the game’s purpose when she starts telling us _not_ to look certain places!
Sherri, we tried knock-knock jokes on her just a little while ago and got the blankest face ever.
That top picture is priceless!

With “Uncertain Principles” as the name of the blog, “NOT” and hide-and-seek seem like the first steps toward quantum physics.
Could there be a book- Toddlers, as Teachers of Physics?
