It’s SteelyKid’s three-month birthday! One quarter of a year, already. To celebrate, she shows off her developmental progress:
Within the last week or so, she’s finally grasped the idea that the larger world consists of objects that she can interact with. Just this week, she’s begun to reliably grab the hanging animals in her little play gym thing. She can even get two at once:
This may not seem like that big a step to non-parents, but it’s a huge deal, because it greatly increases the length of time that she can amuse herself. I don’t need to sit there and shake the hanging monkey around– she can grab it and shake it herself.
In principle, this frees me to do other things with my time. In practice, I sit there and watch her grab toys, because it’s so darn cute.
(Emmy is disgusted by the whole sappy spectacle.)
Emmy must just be jealous of the opposable thumbs.
On the other hand, Emmy has some very good teeth.
And Emmy is independently mobile, which SteelyKid would really like to be.
Further developmental discussion, quite long: http://kate-nepveu.livejournal.com/363595.html
