My New Ride

For those who care, a picture of my new car (I picked it up Tuesday, but didn’t get around to cropping down the pictures until this morning):

In keeping with Ford’s general policy, this shot is sort of a three-quarters angle– as Kate pointed out, the glossy brochure from the dealership doesn’t include any pictures full on from the side. She thinks it’s because the car has a certain hearse-like aspect from that angle:

I think she’s just, um… jealous?

No, wait, she’s pretty much right. I don’t care, though– it’s a new car, and it’s mine all mine.

  1. FM transmitter/adapter on its way. If that doesn’t work well enough, there are kits that appear to offer a direct line-in, but the websites for them aren’t very clear on how they work or on how much removing-of-panels and splicing-of-wires is required.

  2. The unit for our Honda lets us treat the iPod as if it were a CD changer. It requires us to put songs on 5 playlists (HONDA1 through HONDA5), and we can switch among them. The final CD is simply all the songs on the iPod. The order of play is determined by how you sorted for your last sync. The unit is installed behind the dash. If your radio has an input front or rear for a CD changer or XM radio, there are units that use that input. On ours there was no splicing of wires, but there was some removing of panels. We just let Circuit City do that, since I didn’t want to get into it. The iPod ended up in a little compartment on the dash right under the radio. It has a lid, so you can’t even see the iPod.

  3. Congrats on the new wheels, man. FWIW, most cars are shot from quarter angles because most cars look better that way.

    Of course, it might also be fun to play up the hearse angle. With a little black paint and some of those fancy Serif thingies, you could have yourself a sweet Gothwagon!

    It also says “rural commuter” pretty well, much less similarly classed and shaped Volvos, Hondas (looks like a CRV), and Subarus (looks kind of like a Forester). Something that gets decent mileage, has room in the back, but also has 4WD for street snow.
