Congratulations to Tom Renbarger

A little while back, I offered a Nobel betting pool, and promised to allow anyone who successfully predicted the name of at least one of the winners of the Physics prize to pick a post topic here:

If you correctly predict the name of at least one of the winning physicists, I’ll post an article on a topic of your choosing (within reason– I reserve the right to refuse to write on offensive or inflammatory topics) on Uncertain Principles.

Much to my surprise, Tom Renbarger got two names right.

So, congratulations, Tom. Feel free to gloat, and leave your topic request in the comments.

  1. When we heard the announcement this morning Jordin said, “I always thought George would win a Nobel someday.” Not that he as any help when I asked for suggestions when you posted that contest.

  2. Heh, I would gloat if I hadn’t missed the fact that a BEC Nobel had been awarded 5 years ago in the original post. This award is also one of those things that’s been safe to predict every year since the MAXIMA/Boomerang/DASI/etc. results came out at the beginning of the decade. It was bound to happen one of these years…

I haven’t thought at all about what I might request. I’ll let you know tonight.

  3. OK, with Midnight Madness on the horizon, I’ve decided to request a sort of season preview of two (trying to press my advantage since I got two names) of the following three conferences: A-10, plus one of the Big East or ACC. Or, if you get on a roll, all three. If you’re pressed for time, the A-10 would suffice, and maybe something about Maryland. 🙂

Doesn’t have to be comprehensive and touch upon every team, that would be a great lot of work, but something along the lines of who you like/don’t like, could be players, coaches, teams, and maybe who might be surprising, either good or bad, in these conferences.

It’s not quite timely, but the season approaches…

    Thanks.

    OK, I can do that.
It’ll probably have to wait until the weekend, when I get some free time, but I’ll put something together.
