Random Tracks

Despite turning in early last night, I’m sleep-deprived and I have an early morning lab, so here are some random songs from iTunes to hold you until I feel more like blogging. Ten tracks from the four-and-five-star playlist, with bonus commentary on a few:

  • “Little Razorblade,” The Pink Spiders. A new purchase, that I’m really enjoying a lot.
  • “You Scare The **** Out Of Me,” The Frantics. The guy I shared a lab with when I was working on my undergrad thesis had a copy of this, and I spent years trying to locate one. Thanks, Lara Beaton.
  • “Can’t Let It Go,” Goo Goo Dolls
  • “Shame On You,” Hot Hot Heat
  • “On Fire,” Sebadoh
  • “I Can’t Wake Up To Save My Life,” Richard Thompson
  • “Til I Got You,” World Party
  • “Whereabouts Unknown,” Acoustic Junction. This was a band from the Adams, MA area, and the lead singer was the cousin of a woman on the rugby club. I saw them live a few times in college, and was pleasantly surprised to see a CD of theirs at a Borders in Gaithersburg, MD some years later.
  • “Sleep All Summer,” Crooked Fingers
  • “2 Cool 2 Be 4-Gotten,” Lucinda Williams

And because I’m a nice guy, ten more below the fold:

  • “You Can’t Hide a Redneck,” The Bottle Rockets
  • “For The Restless,” Tom McRae. I’m not even sure what this is. I think Kate got it from somewhere.
  • “I’m Always In Love,” Wilco. Summer Teeth is such a good record. I think they went too far with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but this is a great album.
  • “For My Next Trick I’ll Need A Volunteer,” Warren Zevon
  • “The Mountains Win Again (live at KBCO),” Blues Traveler. Thank you, jefitoblog.
  • “Friend Of Mine,” John Hiatt
  • “Dark Night,” The Blasters. The live version from Trouble Bound.
  • “Over and Over Again (Lost and Found),” Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
  • “Coma Girl,” Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros
  • “Here and Now,” Del Amitri. Another catchy song about a dysfunctional relationship.

  1. Ah, the Frantics. I have a copy of Boot To The Head somewhere at home – I remember playing “I Shot Bambi’s Mother” for some friends of mine, and their reaction…
