Not a good start for New Year&#8217;s Day, is it?<\/p>\n<p>To make up for that, how about a good recipe:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cheesy Poof<\/strong> (From Alton Brown&#8217;s <cite>I&#8217;m Just Here for More Food<\/cite>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>270 g all-purpose flour<br \/>\n10 g baking powder<br \/>\n9 g dry mustard (1.5 teaspoons)<br \/>\n100 g eggs (2 large eggs)<br \/>\n43 g vegetable oil (3 Tbs)<br \/>\n227 g milk (1 cup)<br \/>\n15 g granulated sugar<br \/>\n4 g kosher salt<br \/>\n227 g shredded cheddar cheese<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pre-heat the oven to 375 F (do your own Celsius conversion).<\/p>\n<p>Mix together the flour, baking powder and mustard. Toss with the cheese.<\/p>\n<p>Mix together the eggs, oil, milk, sugar, and salt.<\/p>\n<p>Dump the wet stuff on top of the dry stuff, and mix &#8220;until the batter just comes together.&#8221; (I pretty much stirred it with a spatula until I didn&#8217;t see dry flour any more.)<\/p>\n<p>Pour the batter into a loaf pan, and bake for 40 minutes. Remove from the pan, and let cool.<\/p>\n<p>The result is a pretty good cheese bread sort of thing. What&#8217;s <strong>really<\/strong> good, though, is when you melt some butter in a pan over medium heat, and fry a slice of the bread in the butter for a couple of minutes on each side (it&#8217;ll look sort of like French toast).
