This is neither as restful nor as useful as you might naively expect, but that&#8217;s not the point of this post.<\/p>\n<p>Some of our students do manage to make good use of the long break, most notably a group who are in New Orleans helping with the continuing volunteer clean-up effort in the areas devastated by Hurricaine Katrina. The Albany paper has set up a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/specialreports\/katrinaplusone\/\">special section covering their trip<\/a>, including some journal entries written by one of our physics majors (<a href=\"http:\/\/timesunion.com\/AspStories\/story.asp?storyID=541606&#038;category=KATRINALOCAL&#038;BCCode=NATIONAL&#038;newsdate=12\/8\/2006\">one<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/timesunion.com\/AspStories\/story.asp?storyID=542457&#038;category=KATRINALOCAL&#038;BCCode=NATIONAL&#038;newsdate=12\/8\/2006\">two<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/timesunion.com\/AspStories\/story.asp?storyID=542538&#038;category=KATRINALOCAL&#038;BCCode=NATIONAL&#038;newsdate=12\/8\/2006\">three<\/a>).
