What <A HREF=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2006\/02\/top_eleven_early_returns.php\">looked like<\/A> a runaway victory for Michelson and Morley actually tightened up quite a bit, thanks to a late surge by Michael Faraday:<\/p>\n<p><UL><br \/>\n<LI>Michelson-Morley: 23<\/li>\n<p><LI>Faraday: 19<\/li>\n<p><LI>Rutherford: 10<\/li>\n<p><LI>Galileo: 9<\/li>\n<p><LI>Roemer: 9<\/li>\n<p><LI>Aspect: 8.5<\/li>\n<p><LI>Hertz: 3<\/li>\n<p><LI>Cavendish: 2.5<\/li>\n<p><LI>Newton: 2<\/li>\n<p><LI>Hubble: 2<\/li>\n<p><LI>M&ouml;ssbauer: 1<\/li>\n<p><\/UL><\/p>\n<p><P>A total of 89 people voted, 90 if you count the one write-in vote for Darwin (I don&#8217;t), and include a few votes placed in the wrong comment threads (no election 2000 jokes, please). Thanks to all who participated.<\/p>\n<p><P>So, the people have spoken: The Greatest Physics Experiment Ever is the <A HREF=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2006\/02\/top_eleven_michelson_and_morel.php\">Michelson and Morley<\/A> experiment to detect the aether.
