One of my favorite bits of the 1997 Nobel was seeing the media circus that went on around the Prize&#8211; I&#8217;ll put some amusing anecdotes into another post.<\/p>\n<p>All the usual blogger suspects have weighed in with comments, including but not limited to <a href=\"http:\/\/cosmicvariance.com\/2006\/10\/03\/nobel-prize-to-mather-and-smoot-for-cmb-anisotropies\/\">Sean<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/brahms.phy.vanderbilt.edu\/~rknop\/blog\/?p=108\">Rob<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/catdynamics\/2006\/10\/cobe_gets_nobel_nod.php\">Steinn<\/a>, <A href=\"http:\/\/asymptotia.com\/2006\/10\/03\/physics-nobel-prize-2006\/\">Clifford<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/twistedphysics.typepad.com\/cocktail_party_physics\/2006\/10\/varying_degrees.html\">Jennifer Ouellette<\/a>. Most of them took the time to find the appropriate COBE graphics to illustrate their posts, which I was too lazy to do.<\/p>\n<p>Janet Stemwedel deserves special mention for <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/ethicsandscience\/2006\/10\/my_mom_on_the_nobel_laureates.php\">providing personal anecdotes<\/a> about the laureates. Her mother worked with Smoot and Mather, and says they&#8217;re both good people.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure there&#8217;s lots of other good stuff out there about COBE, Mather, and Smoot.
