Sometimes, though, there&#8217;s just no way to get it done, and we have to resort to Kate holding Appa near her:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/467\/files\/2012\/04\/i-f8e900cdab715828cc2d0aa79a345513-sm_week89.jpg\" alt=\"i-f8e900cdab715828cc2d0aa79a345513-sm_week89.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s hugging her jacket because it got kind of cold this afternoon, but she&#8217;s in a phase where she refuses to put her jacket on, and also refuses to go inside. Life&#8217;s tough with a willful toddler.<\/p>\n<p>To compensate for the lack of elegance in this week&#8217;s Appa picture, here are two much better shots taken by Matt Milless of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mahimattphoto.com\/\">Mahi Matt Photo<\/a> at last night&#8217;s charity basketball game. First, a shot of the two of us during the halftime mini-game for small kids:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/467\/files\/2012\/04\/i-0a6616516e80bf13bc023e2c57e96c76-sm_hoops_baby.jpg\" alt=\"i-0a6616516e80bf13bc023e2c57e96c76-sm_hoops_baby.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then a shot not long after:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/467\/files\/2012\/04\/i-456811f1cd6fc9cd1b664c0a31f5f148-sm_post-shot.jpg\" alt=\"i-456811f1cd6fc9cd1b664c0a31f5f148-sm_post-shot.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The look on her face very clearly says that she was none too happy at having to relinquish her ball for a shot, and isn&#8217;t going to let <em>that<\/em> happen again&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This also shows the difference between pictures taken by a rank amateur, and those taken by someone who knows what he&#8217;s doing with a camera&#8230; Which is why I put them here, below the fold.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most weeks, I try to find some natural-looking way to get SteelyKid and Appa in the picture together.
