I&#8217;ve obtained a few more copies of the bound galleys from the publisher, so we&#8217;ll be giving two awards in each contest<br \/>\ncategory: one for each photo, one for Cuttlefish poetry, and one for non-Cuttlefish poetry.<\/p>\n<p>And the winners are:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Photo 1: The award goes to <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2009\/06\/how_to_teach_physics_to_your_d_2.php#comment-1732125\">Nick at #25<\/a>: <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/467\/files\/2012\/04\/i-34489378730a5a96bc26bd31f159c7bc-sm_doggs_boson.jpg\" alt=\"i-34489378730a5a96bc26bd31f159c7bc-sm_doggs_boson.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Photo 2: The award goes to <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2009\/06\/how_to_teach_physics_to_your_d_2.php#comment-1726481\">Eric Goebelbecer at #8<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/467\/files\/2012\/04\/i-c32df3e1c6d0bec3db9d62112a5f80e0-sm_cat_check.jpg\" alt=\"i-c32df3e1c6d0bec3db9d62112a5f80e0-sm_cat_check.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Honorable Mention: <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2009\/06\/how_to_teach_physics_to_your_d_2.php#comment-1726553\">Dave W. at #11<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2009\/06\/how_to_teach_physics_to_your_d_2.php#comment-1736004\">Konrad at #30<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s ask the judges what they thought:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chad<\/strong>: All three of the entries captioning Photo 1 were using essentially the same joke. I thought that the LOL-osity of the winner picture really put it over the top, though.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kate<\/strong>: I liked the winner for Photo 2 because it had good visual pacing for the joke punchline.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SteelyKid<\/strong>: Ga ga ga ga ga ga ga. Bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbth!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emmy<\/strong>: <i>sniffs screen, sniffs keyboard, wanders off to see if any scraps have miraculously appeared in her bowl.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>So, there you have it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Poetry Contest Winners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Non-Cuttlefish Poetry Prize<\/strong> goes to: <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2009\/06\/how_to_teach_physics_to_your_d_3.php#comment-1740339\">Adrian Morgan at #21\/23<\/a> for:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A dog who seeks morsels organic<br \/>\nSuch as bunnies that run when they panic<br \/>\nMust be fast and observing<br \/>\nAnd strong and deserving<br \/>\nAnd informed about quantum mechanic<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Honorable mention to Sandy Dog at #22 for a pretty good haiku, that lacked only a physics reference.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Cuttlefish Poetry Prize<\/strong> goes to the Cuttlefish Poet, naturally. Honestly, it was locked up with the first double dactyl entry:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Beautifully, Dutifully,<br \/>\nEmmy the elegant<br \/>\nPoses for pictures, with<br \/>\nEvident ease;<\/p>\n<p>Helps with translating the<br \/>\nQuantum-mechanical<br \/>\nThoughts of her human, to<br \/>\nBunnies and Cheese!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2009\/06\/how_to_teach_physics_to_your_d_3.php#comment-1732242\">&#8220;Queen of Niskayuna&#8221; song<\/a> at #18 was really above and beyond, though. I&#8217;m speechless. Well, almost.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s ask the judges what they thought:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chad<\/strong>: It was hard to choose between the Cuttlefish entries. I kind of liked the second double dactyl, but splitting &#8220;gedankenexperiment over two lines probably isn&#8217;t really kosher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kate<\/strong>: Poetry is, alas, not really my medium, but I can appreciate meeting the constraints of difficult forms, and both the winners made me laugh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SteelyKid<\/strong>: mum mum mum mum YA YA YA YA YA YA YA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emmy<\/strong>: I like cheese. Also, bunnies. I don&#8217;t really get this whole dactyl thing, though.<\/p>\n<p>So, there you have it. The winners should contact me at the email address under the &#8220;Contact&#8221; tab at the top of the page with a snail-mail address to which your bound galley copies will be sent.<\/p>\n<p>If you didn&#8217;t win, don&#8217;t worry.
