One thing that shouldn&#8217;t be allowed to slip through the cracks, though, is the announcement of the program for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/festival\">2009 World Science Festival<\/a>, June 11-14 in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a lot of interesting stuff there. The emails I got specifically mentioned the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/opening\">Opening Gala<\/a>, which I suspect is likely to be a little more expensive than I&#8217;d like. Unless some New York based science magazine were willing to cough up some, let&#8217;s call it &#8220;seed money,&#8221; to let me go for free&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Actually, as cool as E.O. Wilson is, I&#8217;d be more interested in some of the more physics-themed events. Fortunately, there are a lot of those, too:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A high-powered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/nothing\">panel on nothing<\/a>&#8212; in the &#8220;vacuum and dark energy&#8221; sense, not the <cite>Seinfeld<\/cite> sense.<\/li>\n<li>People telling <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/matter\">stories about science<\/a>, which would hopefully include at least one True Lab Story.<\/li>\n<li>Bill Phillips <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/einstein-time-cool-stuff\">talking about cold atoms<\/a>. Granted, I&#8217;ve seen this, but it never gets old.<\/li>\n<li>A panel on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/time-since-einstein\">time in modern physics<\/a>, including some blogger guy.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsciencefestival.com\/2009\/infinite-worlds\">panel discussion on Many-Worlds<\/a> &#8220;featuring an original musical interlude, inspired by parallel worlds, by DJ Spooky.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And plenty of other stuff.
