You do not need to be aware of the reason, just know that there is one.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, when I change the &#8220;Windows Update&#8221; setting to something other than &#8220;Install updates and automatically restart any damn fool time you please,&#8221; that means that I do not want you to install updates and restart <strong>unless I specifically tell you to do so<\/strong>. I don&#8217;t care how &#8220;critical&#8221; the updates are, I don&#8217;t care how many days it&#8217;s been since the last time I updated&#8211; I&#8217;m the one who decides when you install and restart.<\/p>\n<p>To put it bluntly, when I change a setting, it should <strong>goddamn well stay changed<\/strong>. And don&#8217;t try to pretend that I <strong>didn&#8217;t<\/strong> change the Update settings&#8211; I know I did, after the last time you randomly shut down five programs that had data windows open for some &#8220;critical&#8221; update.<\/p>\n<p>If this arbitrary re-setting of settings continues, I will introduce you to the great big magnet we keep in the Physics department for just such occasions.
