{"id":2243,"date":"2008-02-05T10:41:06","date_gmt":"2008-02-05T10:41:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2008\/02\/05\/darth-vader-vs-my-dog\/"},"modified":"2008-02-05T10:41:06","modified_gmt":"2008-02-05T10:41:06","slug":"darth-vader-vs-my-dog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/chadorzel.com\/principles\/2008\/02\/05\/darth-vader-vs-my-dog\/","title":{"rendered":"Darth Vader vs. My Dog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Paper of Record reports on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/02\/05\/science\/05mit.html?_r=1&#038;ex=1359954000&#038;en=23cfc340724e1920&#038;ei=5088&#038;partner=rssnyt&#038;emc=rss&#038;oref=slogin\">science debate, of sorts<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>On one side of a vaunted cultural divide were Doug Liman, director of the coming movie &#8220;Jumper,&#8221; about a young man who discovers he can transport himself anywhere he wants just by thinking about it, and Hayden Christensen, the film&#8217;s star.<\/p>\n<p>On the other were a pair of the institute&#8217;s physics professors, Edward Farhi and Max Tegmark, experts on the type of physics the movie was purporting to portray, who had been enlisted to view a few scenes from it and talk about science.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On the one hand, I find this <cite>Physics of Star Trek<\/cite> sort of stuff a little cheesey. The teleportation in the book or movie really has nothing to do with the science of &#8220;quantum teleportation,&#8221; and using Hayden Christensen as a hook to get people to think about real science has a faint whiff of desperation&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But really, who am I kidding?
