{"id":1596,"date":"2007-07-18T09:35:22","date_gmt":"2007-07-18T09:35:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2007\/07\/18\/subhuman-behavior-in-the-nfl\/"},"modified":"2007-07-18T09:35:22","modified_gmt":"2007-07-18T09:35:22","slug":"subhuman-behavior-in-the-nfl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/chadorzel.com\/principles\/2007\/07\/18\/subhuman-behavior-in-the-nfl\/","title":{"rendered":"Subhuman Behavior in the NFL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve never been a big fan of Michael Vick as a football player, and his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesmokinggun.com\/archive\/years\/2007\/0717072vick1.html\">indictment for running a dog-fighting business<\/a> pretty much wipes out any chance he ever had of winning me over. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.outsidethebeltway.com\/archives\/2007\/07\/michael_vick_indicted_on_charges_of_dog_fighting\/\">Steve Verdon<\/a> notes that, if convicted, Vick could be fined up to $350,000 and face as much as six years in prison, and that would be getting off easy. I think <a href=\"http:\/\/highclearing.com\/index.php\/archives\/2007\/07\/17\/6805\">Jim Henley put it best<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A dog is a great big furry ball of trust, even a dog that has been trained into meanness and savagery. To traduce that trust is unforgiveable. It is inhuman.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;ll be interesting to see what the NFL does about this. They&#8217;ve been cracking down on off-field conduct, and the commissioner has handed down some serious suspensions, but none of the players affected has been a major star the way Vick is.
