I can’t say I’ve been paying any attention– I only noticed it today because the New York Times had a feature article about the event that somehow slipped into the “Science” RSS feed.

I’m pretty ambivalent about the giant charity rock spectacle. Of course, as a good child of the 80’s, I remember the Live Aid shows, but I can’t say I was all that invested in those, either. I’ve tried and failed to block “We Are the World” from my memory, not because of any objection to the charity, but because the song was so very, very annoying. But really, I can’t help wondering whether the money being spent on arranging a giant series of rock concerts couldn’t be used to do something more useful…

Anyway, does anyone have really strong feelings about these shows? Anybody going? According to the Times, tickets for the Meadowlands show are still available…

(Tangential computer peeve: Getting that stupid little logo .jpg was inordinately annoying. First of all, the logo on the official web site is actually a Flash thing, because they’re oh so cool and clever. Then, I said “Well, I’ll just screen cap it,” only screen capture doesn’t appear to work on my computer– there’s a “Print Screen” key, but it’s a Dell keyboard, and it’s actually a “Print Screen/ SysReq” key, which means that pressing it does fuck-all. And I can’t figure out what combination of keys you need to hit to make it function like a “Print Screen” key– “Alt,” “Ctrl,” “Shift,” the stupid little Windows symbol key, combinations of keys, none of them do a damn thing. And, of course, the help utility is utterly useless, because it redirects to a web page that no longer exists because this computer is a couple of years old, and they’ve reorganized their web material seven times since then.)

(Have I mentioned that I really hate computers?)

I know, it’s “Live Earth,” but they’ve got this giant blue-green circle at the left of their logo, which makes it look like an illuminated initial capital… So, the latest charity rock specatcle is scheduled to start tonight.
