For most academics in the US, this is already summer. Not so for us&#8211; we&#8217;re on trimesters, so we&#8217;re still in session, and have classes scheduled. This tends to undercut the solemnity of the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also an Admissions event today, and then I&#8217;m having a class over for dinner, so I&#8217;m going to be pretty busy. In addition to being a solemn official holiday,  this is also the semi-official start of the sumnmer season, so I thought I&#8217;d acknowledge that aspect with a little pop-culture thread&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Stretching the Memorial Day theme a bit, these are all songs from my past, in guess-the-lyrics format, shuffled by iTunes. The rough date range is 1980-1990, though I&#8217;m not terribly confident in that. At the least, these are songs that I associated with the mid-to-late 80&#8217;s, and they were mostly popular, so there&#8217;s no reason they shouldn&#8217;t be easy to guess (except for a few where the lyrics are so exceptionally dumb that I had to go with something cryptic).<\/p>\n<p>Here we go:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>I&#8217;m between the poles and the equator, don&#8217;t send a private investigator to find me please.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ll say that you&#8217;re right if you&#8217;ll say that I&#8217;m right\/ Let&#8217;s hit the hay and call this case closed.<\/li>\n<li>I can&#8217;t get any rest, people say I&#8217;m obsessed<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ll take your car, yes we will, take your car and drive it.<\/li>\n<li>Every single meeting with his so-called superiors is a humiliating kick in the crotch.<\/li>\n<li>She bitched so much, it drove me nuts, and now we&#8217;re happier this way.<\/li>\n<li>Now no-one&#8217;s knocked upon my door, for a thousand years or more.<\/li>\n<li>Stop walking down my street. Who do you expect to meet?<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re out of luck or out of work, we could send you to Johannesburg.<\/li>\n<li>Some other fool across the ocean years ago, must have crashed his little airplane<\/li>\n<li>She put her hand in my pocket, I got a keepsake and a kiss<\/li>\n<li>Oh, look what you&#8217;ve done to this rock-n-roll clown.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ve got your nuclear boots, and your drip dry glove.<\/li>\n<li>Poor old Johnny Ray sounded sad upon the radio, broke a million hearts in mono.<\/li>\n<li>Who&#8217;ll be my role model now that my role model is gone, gone?<\/li>\n<li>Though I respect that a lot, I&#8217;d be fired if that were my job, After killing Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts<\/li>\n<li>Hey you! Who said that? Baby how you been?<\/li>\n<li>And now you find yourself in &#8217;82, the disco hotspots hold no charm for you.<\/li>\n<li>There is water at the bottom of the ocean.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;re kidding!
