{"id":137,"date":"2006-03-23T10:28:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-23T10:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2006\/03\/23\/blog-pimping-1\/"},"modified":"2006-03-23T10:28:00","modified_gmt":"2006-03-23T10:28:00","slug":"blog-pimping-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/chadorzel.com\/principles\/2006\/03\/23\/blog-pimping-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Blog Pimping(*)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I feel a little guilty for catering to the whims of Internet perverts in the <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2006\/03\/give_the_people_what_they_want.php\">previous entry, so here are a couple of new science-y blogs worth taking a look at:<\/p>\n<p>First, via <a href=\"http:\/\/pipeline.corante.com\/archives\/2006\/03\/20\/grad_school_blogged.php\">Derek Lowe<\/a>, is the blog of <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tenderbutton.com\/\">chemistry grad student Dylan Stiles<\/a>. There&#8217;s lots of highly geeky material, with lots of little diagrams showing various stages of synthesis, but there&#8217;s some fun stuff as well, including a <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.tenderbutton.com\/?cat=17\">recurring feature on sketchy things found in the stockroom<\/a>. It&#8217;s a good blog if you&#8217;re nostalgic for the carefree days of grad school.<\/p>\n<p>(If the Powers What Is want to find some more physical-science types for ScienceBlogs, Dylan might be a good candidate. And, hey, if you get him before he graduates, you can pay him a quarter what you&#8217;re paying the rest of us&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>The other new blog of note is Mark Chu-Carroll&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/goodmath.blogspot.com\/\">Good Math, Bad Math<\/a>, which is dedicated to&#8230;, well, you can all read. He&#8217;s got a nice post up about <a href=\"http:\/\/goodmath.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/bad-math-for-bad-politics.html\">offensively stupid statistics<\/a> comparing casualty rates in Iraq to accident rates in the US, along with a <a href=\"http:\/\/goodmath.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/clarifying-recursion.html\">nice explanation of recursion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I realize that Math is Hard, but it&#8217;s a good blog, so check it out.<\/p>\n<p>(* &#8211; Notice me not making an Oscar-winning rap joke.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I feel a little guilty for catering to the whims of Internet perverts in the previous entry, so here are a couple of new science-y blogs worth taking a look at: First, via Derek Lowe, is the blog of chemistry grad student Dylan Stiles.
