After giving the test, I have to grade it, but then, I get a whole week of &#8220;vacation.&#8221; The scare quotes are because of the multitude of things that need doing&#8211; I have to prep two classes for next term, start assembling material for my tenure review, and do a bunch of work in the lab. It&#8217;s not going to be restful.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, you get lazy blogging today. Here are some links that have caught my eye:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, on the science front, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2006\/03\/14\/science\/14essa.html?ex=1299992400&#038;en=fc8e36f157fd7e2b&#038;ei=5088&#038;partner=rssnyt&#038;emc=rss\">Dennis Overbye takes on quantum mysticism<\/a>. I haven&#8217;t seen <cite>What the #$!%* Do We Know?<\/cite>, but based on the descriptions, he says all the right things.<\/li>\n<li>A couple of notes from inside ScienceBlogs: <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/ethicsandscience\/2006\/03\/what_not_to_do_when_the_system.php\">Dr. Free-Ride on how the academic system is broken<\/a>, and <A href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/transcript\/2006\/03\/unionizing_postdocs.php\">Alex Palazzo on attempts to fix it<\/a>, plus <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/cognitivedaily\/2006\/03\/should_scientists_wait_for_pee.php\">Dave Munger on peer review<\/a> (there&#8217;s a whole ArXiv rant that goes with that last one, but we&#8217;ll skip it for now). On the lighter side, <A href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/evolgen\/2006\/03\/fight_night_at_the_laboratory.php\">RPM<\/a> points to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bioteach.ubc.ca\/quarterly\/?p=175\">Greatest Scientist Cage Match<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Did you know that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/blog\/\">The Planetary Society has a weblog<\/a>? I didn&#8217;t until I found out from <a href=\"http:\/\/james-nicoll.livejournal.com\/313202.html\">James Nicoll<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rockymountainnews.com\/drmn\/opinion_columnists\/article\/0,2777,DRMN_23972_4519618,00.html\">Fat Bald Guy Rule<\/a> is worth keeping in mind.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pipeline.corante.com\/archives\/2006\/03\/09\/men_and_women_and_science_and_jobs.php\">Deek Lowe has some thoughts on gender issues in science<\/a> that are worth reading.<\/li>\n<li>And finally, I linked this yesterday, but here it is again: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/classes\/siva\/archives\/002891.html\">the classic <cite>Sesame Street<\/cite> aliens<\/a>.
