{"id":10230,"date":"2015-10-08T10:49:13","date_gmt":"2015-10-08T14:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/?p=10230"},"modified":"2015-10-08T10:49:13","modified_gmt":"2015-10-08T14:49:13","slug":"038366-cloudy-conjunction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/chadorzel.com\/principles\/2015\/10\/08\/038366-cloudy-conjunction\/","title":{"rendered":"038\/366: Cloudy Conjunction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/2015\/10\/07\/037366-morning-star-and-moon\/\">yesterday&#8217;s crude astrophotography post<\/a>, I mentioned that the conjunction of Venus and the Moon would be closer this morning, but I took a shot of it yesterday because there&#8217;s no telling with the weather here this time of year. When I first went outside this morning, though, the sky was beautiful and clear and I said &#8220;Wow, that&#8217;ll be a great shot after all.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Then I went inside to eat breakfast, and when I came back out, clouds had rolled in.<\/p>\n<p>There were occasional breaks, though, and I did manage to get a fortuitous alignment of two of those with the bodies in question. which let me make the following composite from consecutive days:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10231\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10231\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/files\/2015\/10\/sm_moon_venus_composite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/scienceblogs.com\/principles\/files\/2015\/10\/sm_moon_venus_composite.jpg\" alt=\"Shots of the Moon and Venus from yesterday (left) and today (right).\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10231\" srcset=\"http:\/\/chadorzel.com\/principles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sm_moon_venus_composite.jpg 600w, http:\/\/chadorzel.com\/principles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/sm_moon_venus_composite-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10231\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shots of the Moon and Venus from yesterday (left) and today (right).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These are cropped so the vertical scale is the same for both, and Venus is on the 1\/3rd line up from the bottom.
